Talullah Bankhead, who was as infamous for her offscreen antics as she was for her onscreen triumphs, has been the subject of a number of plays. Bankhead’s over-the-top shenanigans are catnip for actresses looking for a meaty part. Now Valerie Harper is taking on Talullah, and she’s not just offering up witty one-liners (though there are plenty of those) from the hard-partying legend; Harper is looking for her heart. Matthew Lombardo’s Looped, directed by Rob Ruggiero, places Bankhead in a 1965 sound studio, where she is supposed to dub (or loop) one line for a film. Turns out that’s a tall order for the soused star. Can’t wait for the show to open at the Lyceum Theatre on March 14? Take a look at these pics by Carol Rosegg for an instant preview!
