The Broadway transfer of Yank! has been postponed until fall 2011, according to The New York Times. The show features music by Joseph Zellnik and book and lyrics by David Zellnik. The brothers say they need more time to work on the musical. There is also a scheduling crunch as director David Cromer is currently attached to several other productions. After a successful off-Broadway run earlier this year, Yank! was set to open on Broadway during the 2010-11 season. Cromer and original star, Tony nominee Bobby Steggert, are still expected to remain with the production.
Yank! follows two soldiers fighting in World War II, who fall in love, but are forced to keep their relationship from their fellow servicemen. The off-Broadway production, directed by Igor Goldin, starred Steggert, Ivan Hernandez, Jeffry Denman and Nancy Anderson. It received seven Drama Desk nominations, two Outer Critics Circle nominations, and two Lucille Lortel Award nominations.
