A bright spotlight on beautiful people and their music
"After listening to the music, seeing the documentaries and reading the accolades of Buena Vista Social Club orchestra, it was hard to imagine all of it compressed in a Broadway play. Well, not only was the music as excellent as we expected, but the play exceeded our expectations. It was the tying in of the stories that sat behind the scenes but were desperately waiting to be told. And it did tell the story of conflict and redemption in such an extraordinary way. Social conflict, class relations and the politics of it all are represented but not at the forefront but as a springboard to understand all the emotions that make the Cuban music of yesterday so relevant today. It’s not a political play (regardless of where you stand) it’s a human relations of love and longing through music.
I highly recommend because the story is alive in the music and the narrative, it’s a concert with footnotes, and one just compliment the other. Not to be missed. "
