Recommend? Oh, you bet!
"Just an incredible experience from the moment the lights go down. The actor playing Hermes guides you through the Greek myth masterfully, and I don’t think the cast had a weak spot. I was a little iffy—I hate the Orpheus/Eurydice tragedy it’s based on—but the tragedy, while not soft-pedaled at all, does not detract from the enjoyment at all. The music drives the story, starting with a gospel rock/jazz feel and not really letting up even while going through plenty of other musical genres. Lighting and sets and sound all contribute. Add to all this the small-theater intimacy of Broadway, and it’s nothing short of amazing."

Captivating Delivery
"From the moment the lights dimmed, Hadestown pulled me into its world with a force I wasn’t prepared for. I walked in knowing the story, knowing the ending, knowing the heartbreak woven into every note, and yet none of that mattered once the cast stepped onstage. I wasn’t thinking about what I knew. I was completely consumed by what I was witnessing. Every actor poured such raw passion into their role that it felt less like a performance and more like a living, breathing act of storytelling. Their energy was electric, their commitment absolute. Even in moments of death, despair, or darkness, each performer radiated life. They didn’t just play their characters, they inhabited them with a depth that made the familiar feel startlingly new. There were times I forgot to blink, times I forgot I was sitting in a theater at all. The world around me disappeared, replaced by the pulse of the music, the grit of the underworld, and the aching hope that maybe, just maybe, this time the story would end differently. It didn’t, of course, but the journey there was nothing short of miraculous. This cast delivered an experience I’ll be carrying with me for a long time."

I'd never even listened to the musical before but became immediately enamored with the story, every single actor and musician so clearly put their all into their performance. The practical effects of the lighting and the stage were phenomenal and really helped immerse me in the story. Every single performer gave in their all, but I especially loved Persephone.
