Road to Hell… Heaven for Your Ears
"Such a dynamic show, pulling at your heartstrings in the best of ways! I’ve never had so much fun at a show that made me want to cry. Everyone on that stage, especially the musicians, genuinely seems to enjoy their performance with everything they’ve got. It’s one thing for performers to be good, it’s another thing to be good while seeming like they’re having the time of their lives every time they perform. This show is my favorite by a long shot."

Je me suis vraiment régalé. "

A rousing mythological theme!
"Loved the dancing and high spirits of the show. I really felt a part of it and enjoyed the characters. They were believable. The music was entertaining but not the sort of thing you leave the theater humming. A busy compilation of phrases with wonderful rhythm. "

Amazing!!!
"What a dramatic and moving experience. The music and singing is incredible, and the set with the moving stage, lights and band took it to another level of cool. I would give it five stars if I could. "

Favorite show to date
"This production was simply the best storytelling through music and dance that I have seen. It’s only rivaled by Wicked, Les Miz and Hamilton in my opinion for its imaginative staging and music. “It’s a sad song…but we’re gonna sing it again”."

A Modern Myth With A Soulful Heart
"Hadestown is a stunning retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, blending folk, jazz, and poetry into a hauntingly beautiful musical. With rich performances and unforgettable music, it explores love, power, and hope in a crumbling world. Even though we know the story ends in tragedy, the show makes the journey feel fresh and deeply human. A powerful reminder of why we keep singing the old songs."

True to its source.
"The story ends the same as the Greek myths. Which is uncommon. It is a story of strong characters. The audience should approach the show as a jazz concert overlaying a story out of a Greek myth tragedy. The use of a turntable lift on stage enabled the actors to deliver their songs while in motion, something movie musicals do, while still center stage."

positive recommendation
"The story has significant present day meaning that transcend its mythological story. The staging is challenging but very successfully managed. The music and voices are beautiful. My criticism would be to tone down the volume."

About Hadestown

Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. This acclaimed new musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today… and always.

Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales—that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone—as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
