"We came for a winter escape with the goal of seeing a show every night that we were here. Made our selections and purchased tickets. HADESTOWN was not part of it. Last minute decision, we saw that HADESTOWN had 2 tickets left for the next days Tuesday matinee and because of what we had read, grabbed them. This show blew us away. Non-stop, dynamic music, (wonderful! singers), set design perfection and of course the story line-Greek mythology (do some prep work so your familiar with the story line) Loved the other 5 shows we saw, but this one, we would happily see again. And again. One of those shows that to us, define Broadway. "

My First Broadway Show
"I’m twenty-seven, lived in rural Florida for most of my life. Homeschooled to boot. The only theater I’ve seen is a middle school production of the little mermaid and the recording of Hamilton on Disney. I went to this show knowing nothing more than the basic story of Orpheus and that my wife loves Jack Wolfe. I was, blown away. The stage, the lighting, the actors, the musicians. Every part from the greeting at the front door, to the final bows. I loved. My heart was on the floor watching Persephone. She was my favorite. Her voice flowed with the theme and the music so well. I left this show thinking “this is why we have the arts.” Because survival is insufficient. We must live and feel life. Thank you for holding that feeling of being alive so strongly. To the world we dream about. And the one we live in now."

Well done, fascinating, totally enjoyable!
"What is offered is a 21st century telling of an ancient love story. It is done imaginatively, with great energy, cleverness, and great music and dancing. The audience was enthralled. "

Wow.
"I am so glad that I went when I did. Every cast brings something different to the table but the cast on Feb. 7th brought the heat. Every person on stage blew me away and we loved it so much we came back the next day for the matinee with closer seats. The connection each actor made with the audience was truly unforgettable and while I’m sad to see this cast go, I cannot wait to see what they do next. Hadestown is a timeless story that everyone should experience and I think if you have the time, Walter Kerr should be your destination. "

A Living Myth: Why Hadestown Stays With You
"I remember reading somewhere that Hadestown has a kind of scenography that makes it feel timeless, and I couldn’t agree more. From the moment the lights come up, the stage exists outside of any specific era, blending industrial grit with mythic symbolism in a way that makes the story feel as ancient as it is urgently present. At its heart, the musical tells the story of Orpheus and Eurydice: two young lovers trying to survive in a harsh world, clinging to hope through music and devotion. Their love story unfolds in parallel with the fractured relationship of Hades and Persephone, whose youthful passion has long since hardened into distance and control. The show is rich with details (visual, musical, and narrative), that reward careful attention. It’s the kind of story that moves you deeply and leaves you wanting to experience it again, to catch the nuances you missed and relive the emotions it stirred. The live orchestra elevates this feeling immeasurably. There’s something electrifying about hearing the music unfold in real time, especially when characters like the Fates weave their harmonies into the soundscape or when Orpheus sings in dialogue with the very instrument he plays. “Wait for Me” is, without question, the most spectacular moment of the entire show. It’s the kind of theatrical moment that everyone deserves to witness live at least once. I was lucky enough to attend a performance where Jack Wolfe played Orpheus, and his portrayal was nothing short of extraordinary. His voice carried both fragility and determination, capturing the essence of a dreamer willing to challenge the gods. I traveled to New York just to see this show, and it was worth every mile. Hadestown isn’t just a musical you watch, it’s one that calls you back to its world long after you’ve left the theatre."

Simply Awesome!
"We came from the UK to see this production and my word, we were not disappointed. Every single member of the cast had amazing voices. The music so rousing yet moving too. We see loads of shows in the West End and this is up there with some of the best we have ever seen. "

First Broadway show lived up to the hype!
"Absolutely incredible! The entire cast did the most spectacular job. I was lucky to see it with Morgan Dudley, Jack Wolfe, and Allison Russell and their voices blew me away (especially in the second act!). If their run wasn't ending so soon, I would try to see it again. "

Simply incredible
"First I knew nothing about the show, so everything was a surprise. The music.. very New Orleans ish. Bluesy.. jazzy.. Hermes’ vocals were out of this world great. That’s not to alight the other actors. They were all spectacular. For a first timer, be prepared to be blown away by the story, the songs, the vocals and that trombone! Note: the other musicians were great too."

So much talent
"This show is genuinely so good and every single person on that stage has so much talent I can’t recommend it enough. I wish I could’ve recorded everything with my eyes and brain and have it memorized forever. I know they do multiple shows every week and they definitely gave it their all when we saw them. Definitely worth a visit to NYC to see the beautiful Walter Kerr. "

Stunning, Jaw-Dropping, Easily the Best Performance of the Show I’ve Seen
"I traveled to NY with the hopes of seeing my favorite musical on Broadway, and I was not disappointed. Every single member of this cast performs like their very life and soul depend on it. Jack Wolfe and Morgan Dudley INVENTED yearning, and the grief and mourning and love displayed is palpable. Allison Russell and Paulo Szot blew me away, and I will never be able to listen to Epic III without sobbing again. Kurt Elling has the entire audience eating from the palm of his hand, and I could not emotionally stand the change in tone from the beginning to the end of this sad story. Each fate, swing dancer, and musician told the story individually, and I truly cannot recommend this performance enough. Hadestown, you have my heart and this cast solidified that feeling for me. Thank you for sharing your talents and passions, and I continue to raise my cup for “the world we dream about and the one we live in now.” "

a must-see, Jack Wolfe and Morgan Dudley are starssssss
"Such a phenomenal show but the current principal cast is just amazing- Jack Wolfe and his talent should have made his Broadway Debut years ago, he has one of the most impressive voices and compelling character choices EVER. Morgan Dudley has such a way with emotion and her powerful voice, she is a perfect Eurydice. Kurt as Hermes is perfection as well + Allison as Persephone and the chorus! I’ve never felt so strongly about a non-OBC cast. They’re truly perfection <3 "

The best show I’ve seen in years
"I walked into the show having never seen it but loving the soundtrack. I know the story of Orpheus and Eurydice very well and thought it was going to be the same old story. From the second the cast walked on stage, though, I knew it was different. I was immersed in the story in a way I’ve never been with any other show, and I was slack-jawed the whole time. Between the set, the orchestra, and the actors, this is a show you do NOT want to miss. Jack Wolfe and Morgan Dudley brought the show to the people, and Tara Jackson brought life and whimsy to Persephone that I didn’t expect to see at all. I will say, it’s a bit heavy for younger audiences. I cried multiple times for more than just shock and sadness, and it might be visually overwhelming for younger kids or folks who are sensitive to lights and/or strobing effects. Overall, though, the best broadway experience I’ve ever had, and I’ve had quite a few. "

Hadestown - Amazing from beginning to end!
"This cast is incredible!!! The musicians live on stage can not compare to hidden musicians in the pit! I loved this story, the music, the singing, the dancing, the acting!!! I can not wait to see it again! I also loved how supportive the cast was of each other as the show I saw had an understudy playing the role of Persephone! She was amazing! So much love on that stage! About Hadestown

Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. This acclaimed new musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today… and always.

Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales—that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone—as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, singers, dancers, and musicians, Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
