"Great performance and staging by five people. The interactions between the actors is a the reason to go to see live performances. The initial part of act 1 is slow as they build the story and picks up considerably before intermission. Act 2 is an energizing funny ride. Buy your tickets - be sure to see this group!!!"

VERY CONFUSING!
"We didn't understand more than half of the dialogue and songs. It was loud, but quite indistinct. If I didn't already know the background story, I wouldn't have known what the show was about."

I lot of ado, but ultimately meh.
"Great acting, great conviction, lots of heart, but the show is small, the songs all very similar, and the story meh despite the stakes. Not a disaster. But not a standout either."

What's All the Fuss About?
"Very silly, very British humor. Couldn't always understand the characters'/actors' spoken or sung words. Almost too much enthusiasm. (Maybe it was an homage to wartime British comedy?) Can remember only one song two days later, mostly because it was too long. Considered leaving after Act I, but wanted to know the ending of the story. Not sure why such a compelling story got the farce treatment when it ultimately was more of a memoriam. I was confused by that."

over the top campy
"While many in the audience laughed alot, I found the show to be too campy, which doesn't tickle my funny bone. However, it was very well staged and the actors were phenomenal!!"

I don’t know about this
"We like the production value. The cast was also excellent – so many very talented people went into making this musical. Honestly, however, the play feels incomplete. There was too much of a focus on gags and humor, and when there are emotional beats, they felt incongruous to the whole experience. Some of the jokes were a bit of a miss and borderline distasteful in the current political climate – and historic political climate."

A foreign language musical
"As I said, a foreign language musical.
The foreign language was ENGLISH. I should say British. If I didn’t know the story I would have been lost.
The singing was great. Their timing was impeccable. Unfortunately I couldn’t understand a word. "

Great performers, but long so-so first Act
"Actors were very talented, and I enjoyed all the characters they seamlessly rolled in and out of throughout the musical.
Three of us kept nodding off during the first half, and we were surprised to feel that way since we won't overly tired. Person in front of us also said the same. But, second act was livelier and more enjoyable. "

An enjoyable show that takes history to the stage.
"If you are a history buff, enjoy British humor, and want to see how 5 actors/actresses (most of them are from the original London cast) pull off multiple characters, then this show is for you.
They were all very good, but one actor in particular stood out - Tony Award winner Jak Malone. I can see why he won a Tony for his performance, and he helped carry the show. I came into the show not knowing that 4 out of the 5 actors were from the original cast or that Mr. Malone already earned a Tony for his performance. Well deserved.
I enjoyed it very much but found it difficult to understand what they are saying or singing about. I think it would be helpful for the Playbill to provide the main story points for each act.
Overall, thank you to the actors/actresses, and everyone behind the scenes who provided an entertaining and enjoyable evening. All the best for continued success."

If you like it over the top--
"This show is exciting, but way over the top. Its subject is a wartime deception scheme, so it's understood things will be confused, but with five actors/actresses playing multiple indeterminate roles, both male and female (the cast lists an actor, his/her character, then "and others"), I found it absolutely impossible to follow. The production seems designed more to confuse and overwhelm than to present a good yarn. If you want to be regaled (overwhelmed?) with noise, movement, and excitement, and don't care so much about actually "getting" the plot, this show will do the trick. The production's timing and execution were impeccably perfect--but by the time it was over, my brain felt like mincemeat."

Good not great
"This was no Hamilton. Casting was questionable with some performers not projecting as fully or clearly as they should have. Slap stick comedy was enjoyed by some in audience but I found a little tedious. The story was good and play well conceived but just thought execution was weak and a little confusing."

Excellent music and acting but a subpar story
"If you love musicals, great singing and acting the most in a performance, then enjoy. I like musicals with a powerful story as well (Hamilton, Hadestown, Rent, Mormon, etc). The premise was interesting the story delivery was not."

Interesting story, but tough to grasp the lyrics
"A lively set of songs and great acting and choreography, but my wife and I both had trouble understanding any of the lyrics, whether due to the accents, the rapid rhythm, or our age we aren't sure. But we noticed that not too many in the audience seemed to be able to appreciate all the lyrics either."

Decent show
"Production value was great. Only 5 actors for entire play + it's a comedy. I enjoy more emotional/dramatic Broadways such as Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, Aladdin, etc. Didn't enjoy this much due to that + found the songs and singing to be average for Broadway level."

Ambitious but Flawed

Didn't live up to potential
"We were seated near the back of the theater and had great difficulty understanding the lyrics. sometimes, it seemed the ators weren't seaking into the microphone at all. Being soft-spoken just does't work. People near the front laughed at some jokes that we just weren't able to hear. It really interfered with our enjoyment of the show. We could understand them better during the second act."

Meh
"This musical was really well directed, well acted, and the set design was excellent. But at the end of the day, it's just not great. It's not gonna be a classic. The songs aren't catchy, the story not that engaging, lots of strange tangents and plot decisions, etc. All and all a really well done production of a mediocre musical. Sorry to be the barer of bad news. "

Not for Everyone
"The staging, lighting and performances are first-rate. My problem is, having read the book, I don’t think this is subject-matter for a musical comedy. I can’t put my finger on what “British humor” is, but it’s on full display here, and it just isn’t funny, at least to me. The characters are caricatures, clowning through what in real life was deadly serious. "

Know the story before you attend
"Unless one is familiar with the book or movies, it would have been difficult to follow. It was very entertaining and the musical numbers were great, but having only 5 cast members also made it confusing as to who-was-who, at least for the first few acts."

About
Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical
The year is 1943 and right now we’re losing the war. Luckily, we’re about to gamble all our futures on a stolen corpse.
Singin’ in the Rain meets Strangers on a Train, Operation Mincemeat is the fast-paced, hilarious and unbelievable true story of the twisted secret mission that won us World War II.
Bursting at the seams with the kind of chaos you couldn’t invent, the question is: how did a dead body, a fake love letter, and - of all people - Ian Fleming come together to wrong-foot Hitler?
