Funny, charming, really enjoyable
"This was a really fun time at the theater and one of my favorite musicals I’ve seen on Broadway in a while. It’s pretty simple and straightforward. Just two actors, simple set, but it really works for this show. This show really hinges on the two leads and their chemistry, and they were both fantastic. Very funny, charming, and at times touching. Definitely recommend. "

Thoroughly enjoyed
"My husband I both loved the story line, the comedic dialogue and the music. The actors had great chemistry and delivered their lines spectacularly. At times I found it difficult to hear a few of Dougal's lines. Wished “the volume” was higher."

A thoroughly modern musical
"Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) is one of those rare shows that feels instantly alive. From the opening moments, it establishes itself as a smart, contemporary romcom that avoids the usual traps. It’s romantic without being cheesy, funny without winking too hard at itself, and sincere without ever feeling corny. The music is sharp and modern, with songs that are genuinely catchy while still doing real character work. The lyrics are clever and confident, trusting the audience to keep up. Performances are excellent, anchored by leads with natural chemistry and emotional range that make the relationship feel earned rather than manufactured. The staging is inventive and fluid, using space and movement to capture the pace and energy of New York City without overcomplication. Sound design is clean and powerful, letting both humor and heart land exactly as intended. By the end, it feels complete, joyful, and surprisingly resonant. A modern musical that knows exactly what it is and executes it beautifully. My 9year old loved it, but he “plays up” not sure I’d bring other kids, he’s just a stud."

About Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)

Fall in love with New York City again, or for the first time, at Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), now on Broadway. A New York Times Critics’ Pick, Two Strangers is “an effervescent new musical comedy that delivers lavishly on laughter, escape, and fantasy.”

You’ll meet Dougal, an impossibly upbeat Brit who has just landed in New York City for the first time to attend the wedding of the father he’s never met. And you’ll meet Robin, the sister of the bride and a no-nonsense New Yorker with a lot of errands to do for the bride—including picking up the groom’s estranged son from the airport. These two strangers begin their journey together navigating New York City, secrets, and second chances.

The Boston Globe proclaims, Two Strangers is “IRRESISTIBLE! Clever, funny, and delightfully surprising!”, and it has been named on the Best of 2025 lists from USA Today, Entertainment Weekly and New York Theatre Guide.

For lifelong New Yorkers and first-time visitors alike, Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) sparks a renewed sense of wonder for the city, in what The Wall Street Journal’s Charles Passy hails as “a thoroughly beguiling ode to the Big Apple!”
