Tony Award winner Ali Stroker and Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez will join the off-Broadway cast of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on September 7. Stroker will play Rona Lisa Peretti and Hernandez will play Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre. Tony winner Alex Newell and Laura Marano will play their final performances at New World Stages on September 6. Stroker and Hernandez will remain with the show through its closing on October 11.
Stroker is a Tony and Drama Desk Award winner for her role as Ado Annie in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! She made history as the first actor in a wheelchair to appear on Broadway in Deaf West's revival of Spring Awakening. Her film credits include Office Romance and Christmas Ever After. On television, Stroker can be seen in Echoes, Ozark and Only Murders in the Building.
Hernandez joins Spelling Bee following her Broadway debut in & Juliet. She is an Olympic gold and silver medalist, competing as a member of the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Hernandez won Dancing with the Stars season 23 and is the two-time New York Times bestselling author of I Got This: To Gold and Beyond and She’s Got This.
The cast of Spelling Bee features Jon Cryer as Vice Principal Douglas Panch, Justin Cooley as Leaf Coneybear, Nina White as Olive Ostrovsky, Philippe Arroyo as Chip Tolentino, Leana Rae Concepcion as Marcy Park and Matt Manuel as Mitch Mahoney.
