Denzel Washington — Nominee for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play


Troy Maxson, a Negro Leagues veteran-turned-sanitation worker in 1950s Pittsburgh, whose bitterness and poor judgment tear his family apart.

Bio Brief:
Although Washington is best known as the two-time Oscar-winning star of hit films such as The Book of Eli, American Gangster and Training Day, he proudly points to his theatrical background, including an Obie for the 1981 Pulitzer Prize-winning play A Soldier’s Story. He’s back on Broadway in another Pulitzer winner, this time by August Wilson.
