About Pen Pals

Everything you need to know about the show.

The Story

Bernie and Mags live in two different countries. They’ve never met, and yet they’re best friends. Because they’ve been pen pals for over fifty years. Since they were teenagers, they’ve shared every aspect of their lives with each other. The trivial bits, the most intimate details, all the happiness, all the heartache. They’ve told each other things they wouldn’t dare tell another soul. Even though Bernie lives in New Jersey and Mags is from England, the women are closer to each other than anyone else in the world. Come witness the journey of their lifetime. In their own words.

A Funny and Touching Play
"Two teenage girls develop a friendship across an ocean by exchanging letters. With each letter, their friendship grows deeper, enabling them to share heartaches, accomplishments, secrets, and milestones. They influence each other's life choices and become crucial in each other's life. As we see each young woman in decades of her life, she becomes a fully developed character, one that will leave us laughing and touched by such a unique friendship."

Great performance, and experience!!!
"An excellent performance from Nancy Mckeon, playing the American character Bernie, and Gail Winar, playing the English character Mags; both being the pen pals from the title. The play deals mostly with adult themes, which I’m not sure if they’re suitable or comprehensive for children; parental guidance suggested, like in the rated PG movies or beyond. A very interesting story with an unexpected ending. A great theater, with very nice, and helpful staff. The same goes for the actresses Nancy, and Gail. Thank you all for a great show, and experience!!!"

Unexpected Gem
"Made a trip to NYC to see a few shows on Broadway. Caught a morning show where they were discussing Pen Pals with the actresses Nancy McKeon and Gail Winar. It sounded good so we took a chance. We are still talking about it. This play took you through all the emotions from funny to sad to tragic and back again. The way these actresses interacted was perfect. This is what theater is to me. Such an unexpected treat. We are still surprised at how much we enjoyed it. The theater is small and intimate and it all worked. Bravo!"
