Story

Everybody look around, there’s reason to rejoice! The Tony Award®-winning Best Musical that took the world by storm is back. Based on L. Frank Baum’s children’s book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Wiz returns home to the American stage with an all-new adaptation.

Know Before You Go

The Wiz premiered on Broadway in 1975 and became an instant sensation, going on to win seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Ted Ross), Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Dee Dee Bridgewater), Best Choreography (George Faison), and in a Broadway first, Best Direction of a Musical and Best Costume Design (Geoffrey Holder). “Ease on Down the Road” became the show’s break-out single, and “Home” has since become a bona fide classic. That original production ran for four years (first at The Majestic Theatre and later at The Broadway Theatre) – and 1,672 performances – on Broadway. A 1978 film adaptation starred Diana Ross, Ted Ross, Mabel King, Richard Pryor and Lena Horne, and marked Quincy Jones’ first collaboration with Michael Jackson.

"I loved the costumes all the cast of characters wore in this production! Many kudos to the designers! The detail, the sparkle, the colors was just spectacular! The singing, the dancing, the cast truly expressed how much fun they were having. They made us laugh and even shed a few tears. Their voices were just amazing! We sang along to the song “Ease On Down The Road “! My sisters and I had a really great time!! "

"This was such a unique take on The Wiz, adding slightly more familiar elements from the original Wizard of Oz while also maintaining the fun and wonder of The Wiz film. The Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion were so much fun and the voice of Dorothy is out of this world!!! Minimal set but amazing costumes, backdrops, and choreography. Bravo to the cast, 10/10 would recommend. There were a handful of minor plot-holes that could be fixed with some small adjustments - general life lesson; at no point, real life or broadway, should anyone warn about an impending natural disaster then break into song and talk about feelings. Otherwise, phenomenal cast and would highly recommend!!! "

"I thought the company did a great job of preserving the greatness of the original show, while also adding in just a few modern elements in the dance and the dialogue. Nichelle Lewis has the presence and energy of a seasoned professional despite her young age. It's high energy and fun. Would absolutely recommend."
