About Bug on Broadway

Everything you need to know about the show.

The Story

From Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts (August: Osage County) and Tony Award-winning director David Cromer (Prayer for the French RepublicThe Band's Visit) comes the Broadway premiere of Steppenwolf’s acclaimed staging of a cult classic about an unexpected and intense romance between a lonely waitress and a mysterious drifter. What begins as a simple connection between two broken people in a seedy Oklahoma motel room twists into something far more dangerous. When reality slips out of grasp, paranoia, delusion, and conspiracy take over in this sexy psychological thriller. The New York Times warns, "Buckle up and brace yourself because Bug is obscenely exciting."

Shocking slow burn into a literal powder keg
"Acting was superb, humor, light, but brooding and serious. Set change was amazing, space intimate. Don’t want to give anything away, but interesting commentary on today’s mental health problems, social contagion, and conspiracy theories!"

BUGS
"This play felt like a profound descent into the abyss of despair. The performances drew me intimately into the psychological unraveling of the two central characters, capturing their mental decline with a level of honesty that was both unsettling and deeply moving. Nothing felt exaggerated; the emotions were raw, fragile, and painfully real. The staging was equally powerful. The sparse, deliberate design beautifully reinforced the characters’ isolation, creating a physical and emotional landscape that echoed their inner worlds. Every element on stage seemed to serve the story’s sense of confinement and disconnection. Despite the darkness of its themes, I loved this show. It was gripping, courageous, and emotionally immersive. It is the kind of theatre that stays with you long after the lights come up."

A disturbing look inside paranoia.
"This is an unforgettable piece of theater. It will take you on a trip with completely unexpected twists and turns into the lives of some peripheral characters who credibly show their uncontrollable vulnerability. The actors are at the top of their game: controlled and explosive. The set design is also worthy of awards. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this incredibly well crafted and acted work. "

Brace yourself
"Frightening, hilarious, paranoid, and surreal. Tracy Letts’ play is brilliant. Full of unexpected twists and turns until you and the characters are buried deep in a world of hidden and destructive conspiracies. Even as the ending will leave you in shock you’ll jump to your feet for a resounding standing ovation. "
