Story

Tony® & Academy Award® winner Denzel Washington stars as Othello, the noble Moor of Venice and commanding warrior-general. Opposite him, Tony & Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal portrays Iago, the ambitious lieutenant and masterful manipulator.

Spurned for promotion, Iago’s relentless quest for vengeance against Othello and his wife, Desdemona (portrayed by Molly Osborne), plunges them into a shocking web of deception and betrayal.

Know Before You Go

Othello is partnering with Yondr to ensure performances are phone-free. Upon arrival at the Barrymore Theatre, all phones will be locked in Yondr pouches which will be opened at the end of the performance. Guests maintain possession of their phones and can access them at intermission as needed.

Brilliant Lead Performances in an Overall Stellar Show!
"Seeing two A-listers on stage at the same time is breathtaking. Jake Gyllenhaal gives a masterful performance as Iago, as if he was born to play this role and has been doing it for months rather than in week 2 of previews. Denzel is a legend and his Othello is like no other. The production is further elevated by the rest of the outstanding cast. We were seated in the back row and felt right at the heart of the action, as there is not a bad seat in the intimate setting of the Barrymore Theatre. This show is worth every penny!"

Moving
"The story was true to Shakespere and the acting was superb. Both Othello and Iago move the patron into the play, leaving our would behind. Upon leaving the play, it remains with you. Excellent"

The show you don’t want to miss!!!
" Absolutely fantastic show! Every single person in the cast delivered a powerful, compelling performance. The energy, emotion, and chemistry on stage were truly captivating from start to finish. It was a masterful production that brought Shakespeare’s work to life in a fresh and impactful way. I would 100% recommend it—an unforgettable experience that’s not to be missed!"

Fantastic show by a fantastic cast
"This play was a well-executed and engaging performance. The cast brought strong energy to the stage. The direction and staging were clean and effective, allowing the story to shine without distraction. Overall, it was a solid interpretation of a powerful play, and a worthwhile experience for fans of Shakespeare and theater alike "

Great production
"I was skeptical about the change in setting and time period for this classic play. However, my concerns were unwarranted. The feel and ambience of the original is clearly me. The staging is excellent, as is the acting by the entire cast. Denzel is wonderfully bellicose as Othello and Jake’s Iago is a study in spite and hatred."

Witnessing a Legend
"Denzel is my favorite actor. I gifted my mom a day trip from Chicago to NYC to see Denzel who is also her favorite actor performing in her favorite Shakespeare play. It was such a treat to see him in person. Jake and the other casts were also incredible. We loved everything about it. The only thing that could be better is the bathroom in the venue. There aren't enough restrooms for a 15-minute intermission for women. The line is nuts. "

Thrilling!
"You know the story, but the acting is edge-of-your-seat good."
