Story

Ramin Karimloo, Jinkx Monsoon, and David Hyde Pierce lead the crew in Pirates! The Penzance Musical, this must-see Roundabout reimagining of The Pirates of Penzance. Scott Ellis (DoubtKiss Me, Kate) directs and Warren Carlyle (HarmonyKiss Me, Kate) choreographs with a hilarious new adaptation by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), musical direction by Joseph Joubert (Caroline, or Change), and orchestrations by Joubert and Daryl Waters (Memphis).

Gilbert & Sullivan’s pirate ship docks in New Orleans in this jazzy-bluesy vision of the crowd-pleasing classic, in an outrageously clever romp sizzling with Caribbean rhythms and French Quarter flair. With the tongue-twisting Major-General, the rabble-rousing Pirate King, newly-imagined young lovers, daring daughters, footloose pirates and fleet-footed police, there's a shipload of musical comedy delights on board to dazzle first-timers and G&S aficionados alike.

Fun in the theater, again!
"Lots of energy mixed in with boundless talent in this production. Totally engaging performances with a clever take on G&S’s oeuvre without losing its essence. Don’t think twice - it’s not a financial gangplank, but a high masted evening in the theater. "

LOVED it!
"I've been a fan of Ramin Karimloo for many years and was delighted to see that he was playing the role of the Pirate King in this show. We planned to be in NYC to see another show and booked this show as well. David Hyde Pierce was amazing as the Major General but Ramin was terrific as the Pirate King. The show was funny and had lots of physical movement, which Ramin was great at. Loved his jumps, facial expressions and dance moves...so different from his roles as Phantom and Jean ValJean. I could not take my eyes off Ramin! Absolutely loved the show! "

my review
"I loved the show. I did not think ruth's solo in the second act was necessary even though the actress singing it gave a terrific performance of it. Everything else in the show was wonderful and so enjoyable."

A great redo of a great classic
"Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance is a great classic. And Pirates was a great update. It retains the humor of the original, while also poking good natured fun at it. Great singing and dancing."

A Very Major Musical
"Although I'm not much of a Gilbert and Sullivan fan, this update is great fun. With a new book, a new setting (New Orleans), some revised songs and very clever choreography, Pirates is a delight! The cast is perfect, especially David Hyde Pierce as Major General Stanley. Ramin Karimloo as the Pirate King and Jinkx Monsoon as Ruth meld well with Hyde Pierce - lots of good chemistry! Several show-stopping numbers. Know your semaphor! A very enjoyable show!"

Witty, funny and exciting!
"Our first Broadway experience, we've seen many shows in our native Scotland, this was funny, the singing of an excellent standard, the show is light on plot making it extremely easy to enjoy as a performance, the Modern Major General song a particular highlight! Cast were excellent the drinks at the venue were obscenely over priced, I was billed $78 for two double gin and tonics which was twice the price of a bottle of the gin, the soda was however not as expensive at $10 for the first and $5 per refill. Show great, theatre great, concessions best avoided. "
