Story

Tony® & Academy Award® winner Denzel Washington stars as Othello, the noble Moor of Venice and commanding warrior-general. Opposite him, Tony & Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal portrays Iago, the ambitious lieutenant and masterful manipulator.

Spurned for promotion, Iago’s relentless quest for vengeance against Othello and his wife, Desdemona (portrayed by Molly Osborne), plunges them into a shocking web of deception and betrayal.

Brilliant Lead Performances in an Overall Stellar Show!
"Seeing two A-listers on stage at the same time is breathtaking. Jake Gyllenhaal gives a masterful performance as Iago, as if he was born to play this role and has been doing it for months rather than in week 2 of previews. Denzel is a legend and his Othello is like no other. The production is further elevated by the rest of the outstanding cast. We were seated in the back row and felt right at the heart of the action, as there is not a bad seat in the intimate setting of the Barrymore Theatre. This show is worth every penny!"

UNREAL ACTING
"The show was amazing, I was in awe of the precision of the actors, the organization of the staff and the entire experience. This was my first Broadway show and it did not disappoint. My wife and I would recommend Othello to anyone who would listen. We could not stop talking about it. Thank you for an enjoyable experience. Denzel Washington is the GOAT. Jake Gyllenhall was magnificent. 1000 stars should be given "

To preform this well with very little props 👏 is amazing
"I think you should have some cliff notes about the show. The cast was amazing and able to execute there lines as if it was a movie set. Your mind was transported in the best way visually with little props. Oh and the BEST was getting a photo opportunity when the cast left."

From Doubts to Delight: A Must-See Othello Revival
"I went into this Othello production a bit hesitant—I’d read a few reviews that downplayed it. But what I found was a performance that felt quietly powerful and genuinely engaging. Denzel Washington’s Othello was a masterclass in controlled intensity—watching him unravel into a jealous fury was both thrilling and achingly sad. There was a certain fascination in seeing him spin out while still holding the weight of tragedy in every gesture, true Washington fashion. Jake Gyllenhaal’s Iago was smooth and chilling, his manipulative presence almost too easy to believe. Together, these powerhouse actors carried the story with an understated strength that made the play feel fresh and painfully real. The minimalist set and modern design choices let the raw emotions of the actors take center stage—no gimmicks, just gut-punch performances. Despite my initial doubts, I left feeling like I’d seen something that will linger with me for a long time. "

Left me wanting more
"When I saw that Othello was coming to broadway, I knew I had to see it. Then I saw the two lead actors and that solidified my decision. The entire cast worked well together and the humor added was the sugar on top. I enjoyed the witty dialogue and passion displayed by all actors. An absolute must see!"
