Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions about how much time you will spend at a Broadway show? We've got you covered!

How long are Broadway shows?
Most Broadway shows in New York City run between 90 minutes and three hours, including a 15-20 minute intermission. Each show is different, so be sure to check the run time of the specific shows you are attending either above or on our Broadway.com show page.

Do run times ever change?
Once a show is officially open, run times rarely change. However, if you are attending a preview performance, it is possible that the length of the show will be shorter or longer than expected.

How early should I arrive before my show?
Broadway theaters typically open about 30 minutes before curtain time. To get through security, find your seat, use the restroom, and maybe grab a drink, we recommend arriving at least 20-30 minutes early, especially at busy theaters near Times Square.

What are matinee and evening show times and how do they affect planning?
Matinee performances begin at 2:00PM or 3:00PM. Evening performances begin between 7:00PM and 8:00PM. Find out more in our Guide to Broadway Show Times.

What happens during an intermission?
Intermissions are typically 15 to 20 minutes long, giving audiences a chance to get up from their seats, use the restroom and purchase drinks or snacks. For well-attended shows, concessions and restrooms can get busy, so plan ahead!

Can I arrive late and still be seated, or will they wait for intermission?
Late seating policies vary from show to show. Some productions will not seat latecomers until intermission, while others will wait for an appropriate break to lead latecomers to their seats. To avoid missing any part of the performance, plan to arrive before showtime.

Can I see two shows in one evening? If so, which combinations make sense for timing?
Though uncommon, it is possible to see two shows in one evening! Right now, the play Oh, Mary! has a 5:00PM start time and is just 80 minutes long, leaving time to attend another show that begins at 8:00PM. Head to our Guide to Broadway Show Times for more specific information.
