About Chess on Broadway

Everything you need to know about the show.

The Story

Chess is the iconic musical where power and passion collide, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s America versus Russia at the World Chess Championship, where the espionage and romance are as complicated and exhilarating as the game itself. For the two players and the woman torn between them, everything—personal, professional, and political—is at risk… and nobody’s rules are the same.

Cold War & War Games
"The singers were outstanding and emotional. The orchestra musicians were top notch performers. Loved the story line. The opening musical number at the beginning of the 2nd half was not expected and very exciting. "

No words can describe how amazing this show is
"I wanted to see this show because of Lea Michele. But then I ended up going 2 more times it was so captivating. Great music, wonderful actors, incredible cast! I am very sad it’s leaving Broadway. The soundtrack is on constant loop on my phone. "

So happy I got to see it before it closed
"The vocals were SO outstanding and the acting wonderful. The sets were great too, but quite different with the orchestra on stage instead of in a pit. The company of dancers and singers was fabulous as well. I had just gotten tickets when I learned the show was closing the same weekend instead of in September. Super glad I didn’t miss this gem!"

I thought it was outstanding
"This musical was outstanding in the talent was unmatched. I don’t think there’s any reason that Lea Michelle and Nicholas Christopher should not have gotten Tony awards. Was it the political nature of the show? I don’t see any other reason. This was the best show ever. Wish it would continue "

Outstanding Performances
"The incredible voices and comedic timing off each character swirled throughout the afternoon performance. Recommend listening to the sound track before attending so that one is familiar with the lyrics. The orchestra was fantastic and could have their own melodic show with no words! "

"PAWN" DE REPLAY
"I have been waiting for decades to see "Chess" and last weekend's payoff succeeded all expectations. A fantastic ensemble, incredibly talented leads, and choreography that had me on the edge of my seat. Loved the score and the allegory of chess moves in love and in politics. Four days later and I'm still thinking about the show This should have swept the Tonys - it was THAT good. ABBA's Benny & Bjorn scored music that stands the test of time. I wish I could see it again. Brilliant."
