About The Fear of 13 on Broadway

Everything you need to know about the show.

The Story

The Fear of 13 tells the extraordinary true story of Nick Yarris, who spends more than two decades on death row for a murder he insists he did not commit. Through a series of prison visits with a volunteer named Jackie, Nick traces a life shaped by impulse and consequence. As Nick and Jackie’s conversations deepen, the line between witness and participant blurs, forcing both to confront what justice demands, what belief requires, and the perilous distance between true freedom and the illusion of self- determination. By turns devastating, darkly funny, and life-affirming, The Fear of 13 is a powerful exploration of truth and trust, conscience and connection.

Emotional explosion
"This show is very emotional! One more role of my favorite Brody! All actors are so terrific! Without decoration they presented actual humans emotions that gave us shivers!!! I was watching with my friend, on the way back she is to Long Island, I am to Toms River we still talking on the phone ! Real Nick at the end of the show was the real explosion! We were crying and people around us were crying! And powerful rain scene… just so powerful ! Thank you! It was the best show so far for my entire life! Love it!!! May be it will make difference in a lot of aspects of our justice system! "

Just amazing!!!
"I've been going to theaters, operas, ballets, live concerts, sports events all my life and I this was one of the best experiences I ever had. Adrien Brody is phenomenal, the play itself is very engaging, simple to understand and amazingly choreographed. If I was rich, I would attend it several times. And the fact that after show the actors are coming out to audience and giving signatures and taking pictures with them is just wonderful and so humble. Loved and enjoyed every single minute of the show. "

Enjoyable
"I am sorry this great show will be over soon. It is really worth watching. Adrien's acting is superb, and the story is very compelling. Just the thought that this could be the same story shared by so many people, is heartbreaking. Simple but powerful production. "

Innocent Farewells?
"Adrian Brody masterfully portrays Nick Yarris, an imprisoned criminal offender. The audience is slowly and gradually transitioned from a state of detached concern to impersonal caring. Brody develops a personal bond with the audience and cultivates a deeper sense of compassion and mutual understanding with the audience. The supporting cast, set design, sound and lighting starkly projects the dark reality of imprisonment. Tessa Thompson, Jacki, slowly and emotionally imprisons herself with Nick surrendering herself to the stranger. Fear of 13 has elements of surprise which give rise to laughter, sighs and compassion to the pair. The Theater, stage and set provide an intimate venue, portraying a stark, cold, punishing prison. However, the acoustics required reinforcement to project the soft, intimate conversations between the inmate and visitor to allow it to be completly heard by the audience."
